Cheeks McGee Bio
Cheeks McGee's music is based around acoustic rock but combines elements of blues, jazz, alternative rock, reggae, electronica/dance, funk, and other assorted genres. He is often described as a 'one-man jam-band' due to his frequent use of live phrase looping with multiple instruments.
Cheeks live shows feature him solo on-stage with a boss pedal looping unit, and he creates his backing loops in the moment, building layers of music like cake. He then adds percussive patterns by either hitting his guitar or making unique sounds with his mouth to personify the illusion of having a drummer and bass player. After he has built "the loop" he will then sing, and throw down some wicked solos with his trusty sidekick...the trumpet!
A native of Northeast Missouri and graduated with a music education degree from a private liberal arts college Cheeks juggles his time educating the youth of america teaching instrumental music at a Missouri HS by day and performing music by night!! During the summers Cheeks spends 3 months on the road touring relentlessly from coast to coast bringing his fun-loving personality and one man show to the masses.
Each summer Cheeks typically goes on a NATIONWIDE TOUR that usually expands across the Country from coast to coast and includeds 30 live performances or more in a given summer. Cheeks has played the SUMMER CAMP MUSIC FESTIVAL in Chillicothe IL two times playing along side musicians such as Keller WIlliams, Moe, Umphrees McGee, The Avett Brothers and more.
Cheeks genre is so unique and different he has opened for several different genre of musicians. In years past he was asked to open up back to back nights for Mr. Bret Michaels on his "Roses and Thorns World Tour" then two weeks later was asked to open for Safetysuit when they passed through town on their college tour. (Safetysuit is best known for their single "Stay" which topped at #1 on VH1's Top 20 Countdown.
